In certain exceptional and documented cases where it is not possible to get a test within the required time frame and there is a compelling reason to travel on the scheduled date, you can request a certificate of exemption from your nearest consulate. If you’re depending on the general consulate in Washington, you must write to the following address : urgences@consulfrance-washington.org. The consulate underscores the obligation to actively look for an approved test before departure in order to avoid having to be tested at the airport on arrival and the resulting wait times.

If you are not able to provide evidence of this test or a certificate of exemption, boarding will be denied.

It should also be noted that, in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, the external borders of the European Union and the Schengen Area have been closed to travelers from the United States since March 17 and that, in this context, only those persons who fall within one of the categories mentioned in the exempted international movement certificate for travel from abroad to mainland France are authorized to enter France.

This information will be updated regularly based on further clarifications over the coming days.
